Galileo Wins 2005 Championship

Galileo dominated Lowell in the second half to win the Academic Athletic Association championship at Kezar on Friday, March 4, 2005. The last time Galileo won the championship was in 1998 with then Boston College-bound shooting guard, Kenny Walls. The lions did not get past the first round of the playoffs since. However, seniors Andre Richmond and Obi Uwakah made sure things ended differently in their last campaign together. After knocking down 2 key threepointers to help Galileo come back and beat Washington in the semi-finals, Uwakah followed up with a 13-point performance in the championship against the defending champs, Lowell. Richmond who scored 21 points in the Washington game, added 11 points while playing with 4 fouls. Sophomore post player, Deante Bernstine also scored 11 but it was the other sophomore, Deshawn Jose, that kept Galileo on top with 17 points.

The lions were riding a 7-game winning streak into the playoffs and now sits atop the AAA with a 10-game win streak and the crown.
